Splinterland Self Challenge

My Splinterlands Blog #86 – First Week Of New Ranked Rewards

Welcome to another entry where I write about my journey playing Splinterlands! Initially it was a self challenge, to see how far I could get with the initial set of cards plus whatever I could win. But, that kind of fell apart around week 30 (with the game integrating with the WAX network and users being able to buy and sell cards on Atomic Hub). Now, it’s mainly just me tracking my progress within the game.

With the recent changes to the rewards system in Splinterlands, I think most people can agree that the lower leagues are a lot more rewarding than they used to be. In the old system, Bronze players would only get one chest a day and now they mostly getting quite a few per day. It does take a bit more time to earn chests in my experience, but I’ve been getting around 13 a day on my InvestYGator alt account that I play in Silver.

With the new system, the quality of the chests’ contents are better in higher leagues.

Your quality of reward chests is determined by the highest league that you reached during the previous season, which would by Diamond on my main account and Silver on my alt. Playing in the same league, or higher, than the chests that you earn makes it much easier to accumulate them. Conversely, playing in a lower league makes it take longer to get them.

I’ve been struggling to get more than 5 a day on my main account. It’s also a lot more time consuming, since you need get a lot more than 5 wins to maximize your chests per day. The amount of points that you earn towards chests scales with rating, and is capped by league, so it’s tough to earn Diamond chests in the lower Gold league that I’ve been playing in.

For a change of pace, I’ve been keeping track of the rewards for both my accounts. Historically, I’ve only noted when I got something of decent rarity or value on my alt account, but that account has been getting the lion’s share of the rewards this first half a season. Here’s the breakdown of the past week:

Daily Quest Rewards:

Daily Quest # 627. Earth Focus. Under the new system, you just get points for winning games with your focus. I made the mistake of delegating out some of my best Earth cards and they were on cool down when I initially started playing. I dropped down out of Gold I to Gold II, in part due to that and only earned 2 chests. However, I got some of the best rewards: 10,640 DEC and a gold foil Vampiric Blossom (rare monster)!

Diamond chests get a 16X multiplier to DEC amounts!

InvestYGator also got Earth Focus. He reset back to Bronze I, but I quickly got back into Silver III. I got 20 DEC, a Legendary potion, a Venari Heatsmith (common monster), 2 Merdhamphir (common monster), an Exploding Rats (rare monster), and a Venari Crystalsmith (rare monster) as daily rewards.

An odd rare card that doesn’t have great synergy with the more common Earth summoners. The immunity at max level may give it some edge case use, but I don’t expect it to have a ton of play in most leagues.

Daily Quest # 628. Life Focus. At the end of the day, I got a less exciting Pelacor Bandit (common monster), Exploding Rats, and 48 DEC.

InvestyGator had Death Focus and got 40 (18 + 12 + 10) DEC, a Legendary potion, a Pelacor Bandit, a Pelacor Conjurer (common monster), a Djinn Renova (epic monster), and a Jared Scar (legendary monster)!

The second monster, outside of the Gladiator cards, to get the Bloodlust ability. At higher levels this will be a great card for any matches where melee monsters can attack from any position.

Daily Quest # 629. Dragon Focus. I should mention that I made it back to Gold I. For this daily focus, I received a Gold potion, 2 Venari Heatsmith, and a Blood Maker (common monster).

InvestYGator had Death Focus. I had gotten back up to the cap rating for Silver I. This time I got 28 (20 + 8) DEC, 2 Gold potions, a Legendary potion, a Venari Heatsmith, a Pelacor Conjurer, a Blood Maker, and a Dhampir Infiltrator (rare monster).

Daily Quest # 630. Fire Focus… re-rolled to Death Focus. After renting a few legendary Death monsters, I managed to win a few games. This time I got a solid 1120 DEC, 2 Gold potions, and a Pelacor Conjurer.

InvestYGator had Fire Focus. I earned 1,474 (8 + 38 + 1,428 DEC), 2 Gold potions, 2 Gargoya Lions (common monster), a Pelacor Bandit, a Venari Heatsmith, a Merdhampir, and a Twilight Basilisk (rare monster).

Daily Quest # 631. Earth Focus. For this focus, I earned 386 DEC, a Venari Heatsmith, and an Exploding Rats.

InvestYGator had Water Focus. I got 64 DEC, 2 Gold potions, a Legendary potion, 2 Ever Hungry Skulls (common monster), a Gargoya Lion, a Pelcor Deceiver (common monster), and a Pelacor Bandit.

Daily Quest # 632. Fire Focus… re-rolled to Dragon! I consider Dragon the best focus, since you can switch up what you are playing a lot more easily. For this day, I received 176 (112 + 64) DEC, 2 Gargoya Lions, a Blood Maker, and a Venari Wavesmith (rare monster).

InvestYGator had Earth focus. I got 134 DEC, a Gold potion, a Legendary potion, a Vampire Bat (common monster), 2 Merdhampir, a Pelacor Deceiver, and a Naga Assassin (rare monster).

Daily Quest # 633. Water Focus. I got 240 (96 + 144) DEC, a Legendary potion, and a Revealer (epic monster)!

InvestYGator got Fire… re-rolled to Life. I was struggling to win with Fire for a bit, so decided to gamble. At the end of the day, I got 74 (16 + 58) DEC, 2 Gold potions, a Pelacor Bandit, a Dhampir Infiltrator, a Venari Crystalsmith, and a gold foil Pelacor Bandit!

All in all, it was a pretty good week. It’s a lot more satisfying to open a lot of chests in Silver, even though the odds of hitting something big are better with my Diamond chests. I did open one Chaos Legion pack this past week as well:

A very solid pack with a summoner and a gold foil common!

Guild Brawls:

Guild Brawl #84, playing Bronze League Gold Foil Only. While I had four matches, two of my opponents failed to submit decks. Unfortunately, the guild didn’t do very well and came in 5th overall.

Vs. MISTERMONGO of COPIUM

Vs. CHILDREN1 of IMPREIO AZTECA (MX)

Guild Brawl #85, playing Bronze League Gold Foil Only. I got plenty of matches this time around, and we actually came in 1st place for a change of pace! It’s been a while, but a nice change that the guild did well. I think the new rewards system might have gotten more people online.

Vs. MOZIMO of UNITY’s PALADINS

Vs. FOREVER-RENTALS of GN GODS OF ASGARD

Vs. LUNATIC1981 of PUGGINI’S PIZZA CO

Vs. VINCENTRANI of DISIDIA

Vs. ZATH of DANISHDEGENS

The Rest:

No tournament as usual. Heck, I’ve been struggling to play enough ranked to earn my daily chests with two accounts. However, I did do a bunch of trading this past week. Well, really one big trade with @Cryptocrazy2789, who I did a bunch of trading with in the past and is one of the streamer’s on the official TwitchTV channel for the game.

I traded away 1 Kron The Undying (Untamed legendary monster), a Torhilo The Frozen (out-of-print Reward epic monster), a Spirit Shaman (out-of-print Reward epic monster), and 4 copies of General Sloan (Chaos Legion rare Life summoner) – all level 1. I received a Level 2 Torhilo The Frozen, 11 copies of Obsidian (Chaos Legion rare Earth summoner), 1 Kelya Frendul (Chaos Legion rare Water summoner), Bila The Radiant (out-of-print Reward Legendary monster), Void Dragon (Chaos Legion legendary monster), and Djinn Murat (Chaos Legion legendary monster). I combined the Obsidian cards with some of my copies to get a Level 4 copy and the Bila The Radiant to get a level 2 copy of that card.

I would like to get her up to Level 3 for the stun.

A lot of other things have been going on this week, such as the upcoming Chaos Legion legendary Life summoner stats getting leaked, Voucher air drops for Validator Node License holders, and some other small patches coming out. But, this article is already quite long enough! I may get into some of those next time, when I do my season wrap up.

For now, I plan on continuing to collect new reward cards and see if I can build up towards playing in Diamond. I’ve been hesitant to jump up this season, even though I did get a few max level cards. Thank you for reading and I’ll be back next week with another update!
