Splinterland Self Challenge

My Splinterlands Blog #87 – First Season Of New Ranked Rewards

Welcome to another entry where I write about my journey playing Splinterlands! Initially it was a self challenge, to see how far I could get with the initial set of cards plus whatever I could win. But, that kind of fell apart around week 30 (with the game integrating with the WAX network and users being able to buy and sell cards on Atomic Hub). Now, it’s mainly just me tracking my progress within the game.

One thing that I skipped over in last week’s article, was that they released the upcoming legendary Life summoner’s stats, for the first of the Chaos Legion legendary summoners. At the time of this writing, there are about 300,000 more Chaos Legion packs that need to be sold before he will be released. His ability to give Void Armor to the Life team seems like a solid benefit, especially since he also gives the team +1 Armor to make having Void Armor effective for the team.

I should get at least one copy from the air drop when it gets released.

The other news is that, much like the rest of the crypto market, prices have been in a bit of a down turn. Dark Energy Crystals (DEC) are under the soft-pegged value and people aren’t buying lots of packs in-game, because it’s still even cheaper to buy them on the secondary market. At some point that should balance out, especially since the amount that goes out per day decreases as the value decreases to make it more scarce.

Under the new daily Focus system, the quest timer doesn’t currently automatically reset after it turn out. Due to this, my daily rewards have gotten off a bit, so there are fewer entries for this second half of the season. So, let’s get to how things went this past week:

Daily Quest Rewards:

Daily Quest # 634. Dragon Focus. On my main account, I got 32 DEC, a Gold potion, a Pelacor Bandit (common monster), a Venari Heatsmith (common monster), and Venari Bonesmith (rare monster).

InvestYGator, my Silver league alt account, got Earth Focus. I got 66 (44 + 14 + 8) DEC, 2 Gold potions, 2 Legendary potions, 2 Bloodmaker (common monster), a Pelacor Bandit, a Pelacor Deceiver (common monster), a Merdhampir (common monster), and a Vampiric Blossom (rare monster).

Daily Quest # 635. Death Focus… re-rolled to Water Focus. I received 112 (96 + 16) DEC, a Gold potion, 2 Blood Makers, a Vampire Bat (common monster), and a Tide Biter (epic monster)!

At level 3 he gets the new Reflection Shield ability, which ignores blast and thorns damage. So far, this is my only copy of the card.

InvestYGator got Fire Focus and received 106 (20 + 6 + 16 + 2 + 12 + 50) DEC, a Gold potion, an Ever-Hungry Skull (common monster), and a Merdhampir.

Daily Quest # 636. Life Focus. I finally decided to try moving up to Diamond league, after struggling to get a lot of chests in Gold. I managed to get 12 chests, which contained 144 (16 + 128) DEC, 2 Gold potions, a Venari Heatsmith, a Pelacor Deceiver, a Gargoya Lion (common monster), a Pelacor Mercenary (common monster), a Vampire bat, a Venari Seedsmith (rare monster), and a Dhampir Infiltrator (rare monster).

InvestYGator got Dragon Focus. I got 32 (4 + 20 + 8) DEC, 2 Legendary potions, 2 Venari Heatsmiths, an Ever-Hungry Skull, a Merdhampir, a Vampiric Blossom, a Dhampir Infiltrator, and a Chaos Legion pack!

Daily Quest # 637. Life Focus! Having a bunch of max level Life cards helped playing in Diamond considerably. I got 656 (224 + 304 + 96 + 32) DEC, 2 Gold potions, 2 Legendary potions, a Pealcor Conjurer, and a Twilight Basilisk (rare monster).

InvestYGator got Dragon Focus. I received 272 (224 + 236 + 12) DEC, 3 Gold potions, 1 Legendary potion, 2 Pelacor Deceivers, a Vampire Bat, a Venari Heatsmith, and a Naga Assassin (rare monster).

Daily Quest # 638. Water Focus… re-roll to Fire Focus. I rented a few max level Fire cards and got 752 (112 + 160 + 480) DEC, 2 Gold potions, a Legendary potion, a Gargoya Lion, a Twilight Basilisk, and a Uraeus (epic monster)!

InvestYGator got Death Focus. I received 92 (16 + 20 + 14 + 38 + 4) DEC, 3 Legendary potions, 2 Vampire Bats, and a Pelacor Bandit.

Daily Quest # 639. Fire Focus… re-rolled to Life! I received 1,440 (64 + 112 + 928 + 208 + 16 + 112) DEC, a Pelacor Deceiver, and a Vampire Bat.

InvestYGator got Fire Focus. I got 22 (20 + 2) DEC, 2 Gold potions, a Pelacor Mercenary, 2 Vampire Bats, an Ever-Hungry Skull, a Vampiric Blossom, a Dhampir Infiltrator, and a Gargoya Devil (rare monster).

I opened one Chaos Legion pack:

Three very useful rare cards!

Guild Brawls:

Guild Brawl #85, playing Bronze League Gold Foil Only. I did not have a lot of opponents this time around. But, the guild managed to come in 1st place for a nice change of pace!

I also got another Gladiator pack:

A nice pack, but no gold cards that I could actually use in my brawls.

The Rest:

No tournaments or trading this week. I’ve been busy working or grinding for daily Focus wins. Going back up to Diamond may have been a mistake, but I did stay in Silver on my InvestYGator account. A lot more chests for the lower leagues under this new system, even though the higher leagues do give more DEC:

InvestYGator’s Silver Rewards – part 1.
One Chaos Legion pack and one new Legendary card were the main finds out of my 70+ Silver chests.
My main account – part 1.
One more Chaos Legion pack, though the gold foil Djinn Chwala was a pretty nice fine. A lot of DEC, one other epic, and one gold foil common of note.

Playing Life in Diamond league was fairly fun, but most of the other splinters are going to require that I rent out some cards to compete. I might try to stay in Gold next season and see how that goes, but I haven’t really decided anything too firmly yet. The single daily focus gets a little old, as most people tend to spam that over and over. Hopefully we’ll get some of the ones along the lines of Sneak and Snipe added back.

And, that’s about it for this week. If you made it this far, thank you for reading! I’ll be back next week with another update. And, if you have any questions or comments, please let me know below!
