My Splinterlands Blog #182 – An Actual Mid-Season Update

Welcome to another article where I write about my journey playing Splinterlands! Trying to break my streak of only managing to get one post written every season, which is basically two weeks. There haven’t been any updates to the game itself since last time I wrote, so this may be a bit of a shorter update.

The 7th Conflict ended, and for the first time this set I actually got one of the legendary Summoner cards. The stats on this card, Eternal Tofu, were improved since they were originally shown by adding Thorns onto your entire team. This change has made this one of the stronger new Summoners in my opinion.

Granted, at level 1 I probably won’t use it much.

A number of proposals have passed, though almost none of them have any direct impact on the game. Rewards for another Splintershards (SPS) liquidity pool were cut, guidelines for the Treasurers of the SPS DAO passed, and some minor changes to the pre-proposal phase passed with little fanfare. The one interesting new proposal is essentially an agreement to buy more Hive, and Hive Backed Dollars, by the DAO in exchange for some large Hive token holders upvoting the Hive DAO proposal to give marketing funds to Splinterlands.

Even though this new proposal has yet to actually pass, the Hive side proposal from the team asking for marketing funds was upvoted into passing status. There was some pushback against the SPS DAO side proposal from a few people on Discord, though at the time of this writing it is passing by a large margin. This should give the team about $400K in funds over the next several months, which will hopefully let them do some effective marketing this time around.

With the ability to move Vouchers off to Hive Engine being removed, the price on that exchange has been on the rise. With most of the existing Voucher utility going away after this season, it is a good time to stock up on Mage Wagons – if you think they’ll be used for future Conflicts. With the price increase, I’m guessing people are also gambling that the new cards coming out for Vouchers only will be worth getting.

That’s about it for the game related news. Personally, I am thinking of taking my packs out of Conflicts and opening them to try to see if I can get another Tofu or two. Leveling him up would make him decently usable in my alternate deck. I’m also not all that impressed with the upcoming legendary Summoner compared to Lorkus, Cryptic, or Tofu.

I am doing about the same as usual – treading water in Diamond in Wild on my main account and Silver in Modern on my alternate account. With the removal of the ability to buy the Wild pass with Vouchers, I may need to look at moving to Modern again on both accounts. Or, consolidating down to one Modern account, which might also be a better use of my time.

Still, with the upcoming addition of a Dark Energy Crystal to Voucher liquidity pool in-game, maybe I can still convert Vouchers to a token to buy the pass. We’ll have to see how that plays out once the next update hits. If I do exit Wild, then I’ll need to take another look at what cards I want to put onto land.

That’s about it for this mid-season update. Thank you for reading! I should be back around the end of the month with a season wrap up, though I may wait for the next update until shortly after the season ends.
