My Splinterlands Blog #165 – The End Of Ranked (As We Know It) Is Nigh!

Welcome to another article where I write about my journey playing Splinterlands! I’m a little behind on writing up my end-of-season article, though it did give me time to listen to the most recent Town Hall. It seems that the ranked system rework that I wrote about earlier will be coming out at the end of the month!

To try to very briefly summarize, they are going to remove level caps on Summoners in ranked play, combine all players into a single leaderboard – formerly Champion, and go to a simplified rating system where each game is worth 20 points. There was also mention in this last Town Hall that they would be revisiting the energy purchasing system, as well as accepting Vouchers for energy purchases. Before the end of the month, there is also going to be a regularly scheduled Tuesday update!

The gist of what is said to be coming out in that earlier update is a new rules set, all of the shop pages moving over to the new client, Merits being accepted for Power and Bloodstones again, and a handful of other minor fixes and improvements. The Town Hall also got into a bit more detail about upcoming plans, with apparently an overhaul of the reward system on the somewhat near horizon. They also released the stats for the 2nd Rebellion Conflicts airdrop card, Kei.

This new unit also introduces a new ability that gives monsters it hits -1 Attack.

The new reward system they described was essentially moving to where you buy chests that contain particular things in them, rather than getting chests with a random reward. They didn’t get into real details on that yet, but it was also noted that it would be coming sometime after the ranked rework at the end of this month. There wasn’t much news on land or other changes for Splinterlands.

There was an announcement that Soulkeep, the long delayed tower defense game, had been sold to Double Coconuts – the studio that was supposed to be making it. It’s really unclear what happened with this development, or why it wasn’t released in the past. We’ll see if it actually comes out in the promised next 6 months, or what quality of game we get when it does come out.

Brawls:

Guild Brawl #196 playing Bronze League Gold Foil Only. The guild came in 3rd place again, which I’m happy with. Better than bouncing randomly down to near last place.

Vs. POMOCNIK of SUMMONER’S TRIBE ADEPTS

Vs. GOLDCOMMONLOVER of DIAMOND HANDS

Vs. WELLINGT570 of WELLINGTON GROUP

Guild Brawl #197 playing Bronze League Gold Foil Only. The guild came in 3rd place again!

Vs. RIVAL269886 of THE MINI PRAETORIAN ARMY

Vs. ADAMSHIELDS of CRYPTOMONKEYS

Vs. LUCIDOBURRITO of IMMORTAL GODS 7

Vs. PAOLINETTA of TEAM PILOK

Vs. BM21 of MUGIWARA

Vs. AIRFORCETWO of YOUR WHAT HURTS?

I also opened up three Gladiator packs!

A nice haul with a new gold foil card, a Katrelba in every pack, and double rare cards in two out of three packs.

The Rest:

I had a weird end of season, where I forgot to advance into Gold on my alternate account and accidentally dropped out of Diamond III back to Gold I right before the end of season on my main. I wasn’t trying to queue up to battle on that account, and then proceeded to lose and drop just enough to fall out of Diamond. And, this new season is going to be the last one before the new ranked reward system comes out. At any rate, here’s what I got:

The Gold chests for my alternate account this past season. I got a Legendary, which is always nice, and a couple decent Splintershard chests.
The Diamond chests from my main account. I surprisingly got the same Legendary card, but also a handful of Epic cards as well.

That’s about it for this week. My goal, as always, is to try to get up into Diamond on my main account and hit the top of Silver on my alt. We’ll get the end of the first Conflict soon and the next update coming up fairly soon as well! Thank you for reading, and I’ll be back in about a week with my next update!
