My Splinterlands Self Challenge #23 – Farming In Silver, Midseason Update

Welcome to another update on my attempt to challenge the Splinterlands ranked leagues with only the initial set of cards!… Plus, whatever I can earn or win. Since I have several cards with high card power temporarily leased out to me, putting me just over the threshold for Silver II, I decided to spend another season in Silver League farming the additional daily rewards. Silver II gives 3 daily quest rewards, as opposed to the single reward in Bronze.

As usual, to start off with here is a breakdown of the past week:

Daily Quest # 155 – Win 5 with Earth. I ran into an issue here, where it wouldn’t let me advance to Silver before claiming my daily reward. Well, technically it wouldn’t let me advance until after I refreshed the browser, so it may have been an issue with my not refreshing it in a while. So, for completing this daily I got a copy of the new common Water monster card, Demented Shark.

To push myself over the card power requirements for Silver II, I spent most of my Dark Energy Crystals (DEC). I picked up 2 epic Dragon monster cards, Dragon Spirit, for 550.5 DEC. I spent 1470.5 DEC on a legendary Life monster card, Bila the Radiant, and 1445 DEC on a legendary Earth monster card, Spirit Druid Grog. They were some of the cheapest cards on the market for their card power.

Of these, I’ve only actually used Bila the Radiant in matches.

Daily Quest # 156 – Win 5 with Earth. I think that they may have done something with the daily rewards, as even though I finished the day in Silver II – I only got 2 chests. I suspect it rewards for the lowest league you are in for the day now. For completing the daily, I got 9 DEC and a Gold potion.

Daily Quest # 157 – Win 3 with no Neutral Monsters. Having started the day in Silver II, I was relieved to get the appropriate 3 rewards for finishing this quest. I received 57 DEC; a 5th copy of the rare Life monster, Silvershield Sheriff; and a new rare Life monster, Temple Priest.

My reward cards so far this week.

Demented Shark’s Inspire ability stacks with the Dragon summoner Daria Dragonscale’s +1 damage, making Dragon/Water a potentially high melee output combination. All of these cards are quite playable. Outside of the game, I also got 1,000 DEC from @MarcusWahl’s Twitch stream January competition, for beating him multiple times that month. I missed the actual giveaway, as we got a new puppy a few weeks back that requires watching almost all of the time.

Daily Quest # 158 – Win 5 with Fire. For completing this daily quest, I got a 2nd copy of Demented Shark; an 8th copy of the rare fire monster, Fineas Rage; and a new common Life monster card, Chain Spinner.

Daily Quest # 159 – Win 5 with Death. For finishing this daily quest, I got 13 DEC, 1 Legendary potion, and a 12th copy of the common Fire monster card, Ant Miners. Also of note, I played my 4,000th league game while playing this day.

Daily Quest # 160 – Win 5 with Life. For finishing this daily quest, I received a Gold Potion, a Legendary potion, and a 7th copy of the common Neutral monster card, Sand Wurm.

Daily Quest # 161 – Win 5 with Death. For finishing this daily quest, I got 15 DEC, a Gold potion, and a 13th copy of Ant Miners. For a point of comparison, in Silver II matches I tend to get between 12-19 DEC per win.

Daily Quest # 162 – Win 5 with Life. For completing this daily quest, I got 2 Legendary potions and a 2nd copy of Chain Spinner.

I often play Sand Wurm and Fineas Rage, but rarely Ant Miners or Chain Spinner.

I played in 4 tournaments this past week, 2 Bronze Blunderbuss tournaments with Bronze League rules, except for no legendary cards, and 2 Kobold Mining tournaments with Novice League rules and no legendary cards. I did relatively well, making it to the 2nd round in all of the tournaments and placing 5th in two of them. I did the worst in the first Kobold Mining Tournament, going 9-1-1 the first day, but then tanking on day two to 13-8-1 and finishing in 35th place for 50 DEC.

I did much better in the second Kobold Mining tournament, going 9-2 the first day, where one loss was a match where I got distracted and failed to submit a deck. I ended up 17-5, coming in 5th place for 400 DEC. If I had won that game I accidentally surrendered, I would have tied for 2nd place and gotten 1,000 DEC. Still, no one to blame but myself for that one.

The Bronze Blunderbuss tournaments had a similar result. I did well in the first tournament, going 9-2 on the first day. I finished 17-4 to come in 5th place for 777 DEC. In the second tournament, I also went 9-2 on the first day. But, I had a rockier day two and finished 15-7, coming in 25th place for 300 DEC.

My current rating and collection power at the time of this writing.

Since I will lose 3,500 card power when my delegations end, I will likely drop back to Bronze next season to contend for packs in one of the top 10 spots. I could try to farm up DEC to buy cheap legendary cards, which give 1,000 card power each. But, the cheap ones tend to be rather bad and likely wouldn’t improve my actual ability to win games.

There are still plenty of cards that I could level up to improve my Bronze level of play. I would like to get Brighton Bloom up to level 2, since he’s a summoner I occasionally use for the Earthquake rule set. It’s also a bit more realistic to improve my Bronze play, since getting a competitive Silver league deck would require a large number of cards getting leveled up.

To the skies!

My plan for the rest of the season is just to do my dailies and hope to get something good as a reward. I know I missed a lot of streams and events, which are the best places to get free packs and cards. @Clove71 has moved her streaming to Theta.tv. I don’t have anything against that service, but I can’t seem to get a confirmation e-mail to create an account. There’s also some trivia being run by the official team, but I’ve had trouble getting free time of late.

My guild leadership has been a bit more active this past week. In hopes that Guild content may soon be added, they have created a Discord server and kicked out inactive members. So, if any non-bot accounts are looking for a guild, Splinter Elite has some spots at the time of this writing.

If you made it this far, thank you for reading! If you have any questions, feedback, or suggestions on future updates then please let me know in the comments below! I’ll be back in about a week with my season wrap up!
