My Splinterlands Blog #97 – The New(est) Ranked Rewards Rework

Welcome to another article where I write about my journey playing Splinterlands! There was a change to the rewards system during the middle of this season, where Dark Energy Crystals (DEC) were removed from battle rewards and replaced with Splintershard tokens (SPS). However, everything in the game still trades for Dark Energy Crystals, or Credits that are only purchasable with funds from outside the game.

The new way of getting DEC is that you can burn $1 worth of SPS tokens to get 975 DEC. The other main factor of this change is that the rewards you get come staked, meaning you have to unstake them before they can be spent or burnt. The unstaking process takes a total of 4 weeks, with you getting 25% of the total each week.

Those are the main points of the new reward system changes. In other game-related news, there is an expectation that the next small set of cards, Riftwatchers, will get released sometime this month. Splinterfest, the first in person Splinterlands convention, is also coming up in early October.

I do plan on attending, though it may be something of a work trip.

That’s about all the news for this week. Let’s take a look at the past week and season results:

Daily Quest Rewards:

Daily Quest # 709. Got Flying Focus and still in Gold league on my main. I received 3.541 (0.54 + 2.048 + 0.296 + 0.657) SPS, 5 Gold potions, a Venari Heatsmith (common monster), and a Venari Bonesmith (rare monster).

InvestYGator, my Silver league alternate account, got Fire Focus. I got 0.506 (0.142 + 0.103 + 0.118 + 0.068 + 0.075) SPS and 5 (3 + 2) Gold potions.

The new SPS reward icon.

Daily Quest # 710. Got Flying Focus. I received 0.291 SPS, 5 Legendary potions, 7 Gold potions, a Pelacor Mercenary (common monster), and a Merdhampir (common monster).

InvestYGator got Fire Focus again. I got 0.781 (0.107 + 0.674) SPS, 71 (56 + 6 + 9) Merits, 5 (3 + 2) Gold potions, 2 Gargoya Lions (common monster), and a Pelacor Deceiver (common monster).

Daily Quest # 711. Got Anti Melee Focus. I received 10.347 (0.482 + 9.865) SPS, a Venari Heatsmith, a Pelacor Deceiver, a Pelacor Mercenary, and a Chaos Legion pack!

InvestYGator got Dragon Focus. I got 1.584 SPS, 1 Legendary potion, 393 Merits, 6 (3 + 2 + 1) Gold potions, a Pelacor Deceiver, and another Chaos Legion pack!

Daily Quest # 712. Got Anti Melee Focus. I opened 1.06 (0.457 + 0.603) SPS, 4 Gold potions, a Pelacor Conjurer (common monster), a Venari Heatsmith, an Ever-Hungry Skull (common monster), a Venari Seedsmith (rare monster), and a Tider Biter (epic monster)!

Reflection Shield on Tide Biter has come in handy. It’s a very solid melee card for lower mana matches, especially at higher levels.

InvestYGator got Dragon Focus. I got 0.811 (0.083 + 0.574 + 0.08 + 0.074) SPS, 9 Merits, 3 Gold potions, 2 Legendary potions, a Venari Heatsmith, a Vulguine (rare monster), a Dhampir Infiltrator (rare monster), and a Venari Crystalsmith (rare monster).

Daily Quest # 713. Got Death Focus… re-rolled to Life Focus. I probably should be re-rolling more often, but tend to just skip by it. Anyhow, I got 1.837 (0.31 + 0.689 + 0.479 + 0.359) SPS, 302 (280 + 22) Merits, 8 Gold potions, 5 Legendary potions, a Venari Heatsmith, a Djinn Chwala (epic monster), and a Chaos Legion pack!

InvestYGator got Defend Focus. I received 2.605 (2.102 + 0.086 + 0.417) SPS, 6 (1 + 2 + 3) Gold potions, 6 Merits, 2 Legendary potions, a Merdhampir, and a Pelacor Bandit.

Daily Quest # 714. Got Life Focus. I received 1.415 (0.751 + 0.664) SPS, 56 Merits, 19 (10 + 9) Gold potions, an Ever-Hungry Skull, a Pelacor Deceiver, and a Merdhampir.

InvestYGator got Dragon Focus. I got 2.092 (1.798 + 0.102 + 0.192) SPS, 209 (147 + 6 + 56 Merits), a Pelacor Bandit, a Pelacor Mercenary, a Gargoya Lion, a Venari Crystalsmith, and a Chaos Legion pack!

Daily Quest # 715. Got Fire Focus… re-rolled to Life Focus. I received 2.765 (2.158 + 0.607) SPS, 67 Merits, 7 Legendary potions, a Gargoya Lion, and a Venari Heatsmith.

InvestYGator got Defend Focus. I got 1.372 (0.05 + 0.066 + 1.177 + 0.079) SPS, 5 (3 + 2) Legendary potions, 12 (1 + 2 + 3 + 3 + 3) Gold potions, a Vampire Bat, and a Merdhampir.

Daily Quest # 716. Got Life Focus. I got up to Diamond III at the end of the season, though I believe this chest was still Gold rewards. I received 2.206 (0.572 + 0.788 + 0.397 + 0.449) SPS, 200 (156 + 44) Merits, 12 Gold potions, a Pelacor Conjurer, a Vampire Bat (common monster), and a Blood Maker (common monster).

InvestYGator got Exploits Focus. I got 0.567 (0.08 + 0.039 + 0.448) SPS, 16 Merits, 2 (1 + 1) Legendary potions, 2 (1 + 1) Gold potions, and a Gargoya Lion.

I opened three Chaos Legion packs as well:

Nothing too exciting in the first pack, though overall solid cards.
I opened the other two together, and got the same minimal one rare per pack and the rest common monster cards.

Guild Brawls:

Guild Brawl #99, playing Gold League. Normally I do Bronze League with Gold Foils only, but we tried moving back up to the 2nd Arena tier, which has slightly different brawl ordering. I accidentally clicked on this one, but actually did decently. The guild overall did not, coming in 7th place.

Vs. DOCT3R of GG LEGACY

Vs. MACFILLET of THE KRILL CREW

Vs. JCHEUVRO of SCU ROGUES

Vs. CREEPING-DEATH of THE FAMILY TREE

Vs. ISLDURR1 of THE FIENDZONE

Vs. SAFFISARA of THE ALLIANCE

Vs. YOU-WON of YOUR WHAT HURTS?

Guild Brawl #100, playing Bronze League Gold Foil Only. Back to the right brawl, but due to a rather busy work week, I missed a bunch of the battle results, as well as the final result. I wrote down who I played, but only copied two links for the battles.

Vs. SHERWINJTB of ABSALOM

Vs.CLEV of SL- SPANISH Elite

Vs. SLIBRUT of IMMORTAL GODS 4

Vs. XSUILX of SHIELD OF GLORY

Vs. DASHADOW21 of THE BANTER CREW

I did get enough Merits to open one more Gladiator pack:

Nothing gold foil, so unless I do other brawls nothing too helpful. Still, nice to get an epic card at least.

The Rest:

No real trading or tournaments, as usual. I probably should try to get back into tournaments, but I barely have time to try to grind out daily focus chests. The only thing really left is season rewards. For a change of pace, my Silver rewards were definitely worse than my Diamond chests.

Part 1 of InvestYgator’s season rewards.
A lot of common cards, tiny SPS amounts, potions, a few small merit amounts, and a few rare cards. Nothing too exciting.
Much better SPS numbers on my main account.
A legendary along with a hefty sum of SPS made this a solid end of season haul.

We are starting to get close to the last 100,000 packs that need to be sold before the new Legendary Fire summoner is added. Sales seem to be going along at a steady pace. There are also a few new games that the company behind Splinterlands is working on, but that’s a bit outside the scope of this blog. At least until they air drop me stuff for holding SPS!

Overall, this season seemed fairly tough. It took a lot longer than usual to get up to Diamond, and I only got to Diamond III. Ah well, maybe next season! Thank you for reading and I’ll be back next week with another update!
