Splinterland Self Challenge

My Splinterlands Blog #88 – Start of Summer 2022

Welcome to another entry where I write about my journey playing Splinterlands! Initially it was a self challenge, to see how far I could get with the initial set of cards plus whatever I could win. But, that kind of fell apart around week 30 (with the game integrating with the WAX network and users being able to buy and sell cards on Atomic Hub). Now, it’s mainly just me tracking my progress within the game.

A relatively quiet first half of this season. I played early and took a pounding on my main account, but have slowly built back up some rating over this half season. There were a couple of small patches pushed out, but nothing really big among the various UI tweaks and fixes.

Modern and Wild, the format split between all cards and only the most recent sets is the next big game change coming out. It seems like it should be out sometime next month, though we’ll have to see how testing goes, I suppose. The only other news of note is that Dark Energy Crystal (DEC) prices, in USD terms, have continued to dip well below the soft-pegged value.

This is likely due to the overall dip in cryptocurrency values, along with the upcoming end of the Splintershards (SPS) airdrop in about another month. A lot of people had been holding large sums of DEC just for the airdrop benefits. I still have some, but I’ll probably hold on to it and see if it comes back up to the peg. Or, buy Chaos Legion packs with it – since you can get those at a set 4,000 DEC price.

Once again, I didn’t play in any tournaments this past week. I mainly just played to try to get daily focus chest rewards. My Silver league InvestYGator account has had a bit more luck with overall rewards than my Gold/Diamond league main account, except in terms of DEC finds. Anyhow, let’s get on to the rewards from this past week:

Daily Quest Rewards:

Daily Quest # 640. Earth Focus (reset back to Gold I). This was a carryover daily from the previous season, and for completing it I got 64 DEC, 2 Vampire Bats (common monster), a Merdhampir (common monster), and a Tide Biter (epic monster)!

The Vampire Bat is an okay common card, but not a particularly exciting one. It doesn’t have a high utility in Earth, which tends to favor Magic damage currently, but might be handy in matches with the earthquake rule set.

InvestYGator got Death Focus (reset back to Bronze I). I quickly made it back to Silver III before finishing this for the day, getting 310 (300 + 10) DEC, 2 Gold potions, a Legendary potion, and a Venari Crystalsmith (rare monster).

Daily Quest # 641. Got Fire Focus… re-rolled to Death Focus. I took a beating and ended up dropping down to Gold III. For the day, I got a Pelacor Mercenary (common monster).

InvestYGator got Life Focus. For this focus, I received 38 DEC, a Legendary potion, and a Pelacor Bandit (common monster).

Daily Quest # 642. Life Focus. I didn’t play much, as I burned down my energy collection rate earlier. I got one reward chest with 64 DEC.

InvestYGator got Earth Focus. On that account, I got 10 DEC, 4 Gold potions, 2 Legendary potions, a Pelacor Conjurer (common monster), and a Dhampir Infiltrator (rare monster). I didn’t keep track, but I did get back up to Silver I relatively quickly, while my main got bogged down at the low end of Gold for a bit.

Daily Quest # 643. Life Focus. I played a bit more, and got 11 DEC, a Pelacor Mercenary, and a Gargoya Lion (common monster).

InvestYGator got Fire Focus… re-rolled to Earth! I received 36 (16 + 16 + 2 + 2) DEC, a Legendary potion, a Venari Heatsmith (common monster), a Blood Maker (common monster), 2 Pelacor Deceivers (common monster), and a Pelacor Conjurer.

Daily Quest # 644. Dragon Focus. I received a Gold potion, a Blood Maker, a Gargoya Lion, and a Venari Seedsmith (rare monster).

InvestYGator got Earth Focus. On that account, I got 304 (288 + 16) DEC, 2 Gold potions, 2 Legendary potions, a Vampire Bat, a Blood Maker, a Pelacor Deceiver, and a Pelacor Mercenary.

Daily Quest # 645. Got Fire Focus… re-rolled to Death Focus. This time, I rented a handful of cards and did a lot better. I didn’t play that much, but got 64 DEC, a Blood Maker, and a Pelacor Bandit.

InvestYGator got Life Focus… re-rolled to Death Focus. I received 68 (6 + 10 + 52) DEC, 3 Gold potions, 2 Legendary potions, a Pelacor Conjurer, a Venari Heatsmith, an Ever-Hungry Skull (common monster), and a Venari Wavesmith (rare monster).

Daily Quest # 646. Got Fire Focus… re-rolled to Earth Focus. I received a Gold potion, a Legendary potion, a Blood Maker, a Gargoya Devil (rare monster), and a Chaos Legion Pack!

InvestYGator got Fire Focus… re-rolled to Life Focus. I received 58 (20 + 16 + 10 + 6 + 6) DEC, a Gold potion, 2 Legendary potions, 2 Gargoya Lions, a Pelacor Bandit, a Naga Assassin (rare monster), and a gold foil Vampire Bat!

Daily Quest # 647. Got Earth Focus. At this point, I had gotten back up to Gold I with enough rating to advance into Diamond. For this daily focus, I got 144 DEC, a Venari Heatsmith, a Merdhampir an Exploding Rats (rare monster), and a Chaos Legion pack!

InvestYGator got Fire Focus… re-rolled to Dragon Focus. I received 24 (20 + 4) DEC, a Gold potion, a Legendary potion, 2 Venari Heatsmith, a Pelacor Deceiver, a Pelacor Mercenary, a Venari Crystalsmith, and a Djinn Chwala (epic monster)!

I also opened one Chaos Legion pack:

Always nice to add another gold foil to my collection.

Guild Brawls:

Guild Brawl #86, playing Bronze League Gold Foil Only. The guild came in 3rd place overall this time, though with very little help from me.

Vs. LIKWUNLUN of (something in another language)

Vs. SHRIMPBOY of POKEROS

Vs. FYN of LEGENDARY DRAGON BABIES

Guild Brawl #87, playing Bronze League Gold Foil Only. The guild came in 5th place, with people either forgetting to submit teams or just doing quite poorly.

Vs. FEZZZ of THE INNER CIRCLE

Vs. SOLOMINER.SPLAND of THE MISFITS

Vs. DANIEL-WND of SUPERNATURAL

The Rest:

With no tournaments and no trading, there’s not much else left to cover. I’m on the fence about moving up to Diamond again. Rentals weren’t too bad in the scheme of things, though I have a better owned collection for playing in Gold. I’ll probably end up advancing again to maintain the seasonal reward chests being Diamond.

And, that’s about it for this week. If you made it this far, thank you for reading! I’ll be back next week with the season wrap up. And, if you have any questions or comments, please let me know below!
