Splinterland Self Challenge

My Splinterlands Blog #67 – The End of the First Season of 2022

Welcome to another entry where I write about my journey playing Splinterlands! Initially it was a self challenge, to see how far I could get with the initial set of cards plus whatever I could win. But, that kind of fell apart around week 30 (with the game integrating with the WAX network and users being able to buy and sell cards on Atomic Hub). Now, it’s mainly just me tracking my progress within the game.

In the past, updates to Splinterlands seemed like a rare occasion, with something being announced maybe every month or two. There have been about four patches during this past two week season. It also helps that there is now an official site where update info is getting posted!

The big news is the upcoming Chaos Legion public sale. The next few airdrop cards were also previewed during a weekly public Ask Me Anything call with the team. They are both legendary monsters with Archery based attacks.

The airdrop for the two phase 2 cards also occurred, and I got my 1 copy of Baakjira and Uriel the Purifier. I haven’t really had cause to play either yet. Granted, having higher level copies might make them more attractive to use in the leagues that I tend to play in.

On the individual card market, Uriel seems to be in the $25 range right now, and Baakjira around $30. This makes them the most expensive Legendary cards in their respective colors for Chaos Legion at the time of this writing. Anyhow, let’s move on to the usual breakdown of the past week:

Daily Quest Rewards:

Daily Quest # 490 – Win 5 with Dragon. I finally made my way up to Gold I, and got 25 (15 + 5 + 3 + 2) Dark Energy Crystals (DEC), 1 Gold potion, a Pelacor Conjurer (common monster), a Pelacor Mercenary (common monster), and a Gargoya Devil (rare monster).

Daily Quest # 491 – Win 5 with Sneak. For completing this daily quest, I received 18 (10 + 8) DEC, 2 Legendary potions, an Alchemy potion, and 3 Venari Heatsmiths (common monster).

Daily Quest # 492 – Win 5 with Earth. For completing this daily quest, I got 13 (7 + 6) DEC, 1 Gold potion, 2 Pelacor Conjurers, a Gargoya Lion (common monster), a Pelacor Deceiver (common monster), and a Venari Seedsmith (rare monster).

Daily Quest # 493 – Win 5 with Death… re-rolled to Win 5 with Fire. I rented a Yodin to get this done with less hassle. For competing this daily quest, I received 10 DEC, 2 Gold potions, a Pelacor Bandit (common monster), a Pelacor Conjurer, a Pelacor Deceiver, a Venari Crystalsmith (rare monster), and a Venarie Wavesmith (rare monster).

Daily Quest # 494 – Win 5 with Death… re-rolled to Win 5 with Sneak. For completing this daily quest, I received 18 (7 + 7 + 4) DEC, a Gold potion, a Gargoya Lion, 2 Pelacor Bandits, and a Pelacor Conjurer.

Daily Quest # 495 – Win 5 with Death… re-rolled to Win 5 with Dragon. For finishing this daily quest, I received 22 (10 + 4 + 8) DEC, 2 Pelacor Conjurers, a Pelacor Mercenary, a Pelacor Bandit, and a Venari Wavesmith.

Daily Quest # 496 – Win 5 with Fire… re-rolled to Win 5 with Life. There were server issues, and I missed finishing this quest during the season. I ended up finishing it in Silver III in the next season for 7 DEC, 2 Pelacor Bandits, and a Gargoya Lion.

I also opened some Chaos Legion Packs:

Two rares, off to a decent start, although I only like one of the commons.
I like these commons better, but nothing too exciting here.
Once again, nothing of particular note.

I had ordered packs in pools for both the phase 2 pre-sale and the general sale. As I got in my phase 2 packs, I decided to open a group of 10 packs and see how that went compared to individual pack opening. I got a nice selection of Epic cards, including a gold foil Gem Meteor. I also got one of the new 0 cost legendary monsters. Oddly, I got zero summoners out of the last 15 packs or so.

Tournaments:

While some tournaments did get created, I didn’t actually play in any. I may start to enter some of the non-real time ones, but a lot of the live ones aren’t at great times for me. Anyhow, nothing to see here, moving on.

Guild Brawls:

Guild Brawl #57, playing Gold foil Bronze, Untamed only. The guild is starting to come back to brawling, as we came in 4th place overall this time. Hopefully we’ll go back to getting top 3 finishes!

Vs. TIOMARSHALL of Death Squad Cuban

Vs. Coffee19 of Chao’s Dragons

Vs. M0N4RCH of Legendary Unicorns

The Rest:

No real trading again this week. I’ve been fairly busy, and mostly just doing my daily quests. My InvestYGator alt account did get a Lava Launcher epic cards as a daily reward this past week.

As far as the end of the season, I managed to jump into Diamond III just before the season ended. I also jumped up to Gold III on my InvestYGator account. Here’s what I got for seasonal rewards:

Another Lava Launcher from InvestYGator.
A couple of gold foil commons and epic cards as rewards on my main account in Diamond III.

I’ve been doing much less support work for Splinterlands, as I’m doing some other work at the moment. We’ll see how that pans out over the next couple of weeks and I won’t say more about it unless it does work out. Also, the support load seems to be a bit lighter, as we’re getting caught up on older tickets and may be a bit faster as turning things around now.

For the next season, the Chaos Legion general sale will be starting! I should be getting a lot of Chaos Legion packs and I’ll probably open a bunch of them, with the hope of improving my deck. We’ll see how that goes! I have no real expectations about advancing into higher leagues right now, so my plan for next season is just to keep farming dailies and DEC.

If you made it this far, thank you for reading. If you have any questions or comments, please let me know. I’ll be back next week with another update!
