Splinterland Self Challenge

My Splinterlands Blog #61 – Chaos Legion Soon / Season End Report

Welcome to another weekly update on my attempt to challenge the Splinterlands ranked leagues! Initially it was a self challenge, to see how far I could get with the initial set of cards plus whatever I could win. But, that kind of fell apart around week 30 (with the game integrating with the WAX network and users being able to buy and sell cards on Atomic Hub).

At the time of this writing, there’s only one week left until Chaos Legion releases! Right now I’m sitting on a fair number of packs from the pre-sale, and am planning to open a good amount of them when the set comes out. Though, I also want to save some to open a couple each week like I’ve been doing with Untamed packs.

The wait for new cards is almost over!

This end of season seemed a lot less crazy than some of the previous ones. Some people still had issues, but it seems like we had a lot smaller influx of support tickets and complaints in Discord. A lot more people timed their rentals appropriately, instead of having them end within seconds of the timer that shows when the season ends – presuming that all the season end calculations would happen instantly.

I don’t have a lot else that I really want to cover before getting into the usual report from the past week. There’s been a couple of previews of new Chaos Legion cards, like the new Fire and Death summoners. Anyhow, on to the weekly breakdown:

After I post the screenshots of the new cards of course!
Seems like most of the new rare summoners have two abilities for 4 manna.

Daily Quest Rewards:

Daily Quest # 446 – Win 3 with No Neutral Monsers. I finally got back to Gold I halfway through the season. For completing this quest, I got 27 (23 + 4) Dark Energy Crystals (DEC), a Gold Potion, 2 Pelacor Deceivers (common monster), a Pelacor Bandit (common monster), a Venari Heatsmith (common monster), and a Djinn Chwala (epic monster)!

Daily Quest # 447 – Win 5 with Life…. re-rolled to Win 5 with Earth. For finishing this quest, I received a Legendary potion, 2 Twilight Basilisks (rare monster), a Venari Wavesmith (rare monster), a Pelacor Bandit, a Gargoya Lion (common monster), a Venari Heatsmith, and a Pelacor Mercenary (common monster). I also got a 639 DEC chest on my alt account, InvestYGator, which is the highest amount that I’ve seen from a chest in quite a while.

Quite nice to get so many rare cards in one daily quest set!

Daily Quest # 448 – Win 5 with Dragon. For completing this daily quest, I got 21 (6 + 7 + 8) DEC, a Gold potion, a Pelacor Mercenary, a Venari Heatsmith, a Twilight Basilisk, and a Pelacor Bandit.

Daily Quest # 449 – Win 5 with Earth. For finishing this daily quest, I received 122 (104 + 18 DEC), 2 Gold potions, a Legendary potion, 2 Pelacor Bandits, and a Venari Crystalsmith (rare monster).

Daily Quest # 450 – Win 3 with No Neutral. For completing this daily quest, I got 21 DEC, 3 Legendary potions, a Gold potion, a Gargoya Lion, a Pelacor Bandit, and a Venari Crystalsmith.

Daily Quest # 451 – Win 5 with Water. For finishing this daily quest, I received 67 (23 + 27 + 10 + 7) DEC, 2 Gold potions, a Pelacor Bandit, and a Pelacor Mercenary.

Daily Quest # 452 – Win 5 with Snipe. For the final daily quest, I jumped up to Diamond 3 and got 28 (5 + 4 + 8 + 2 + 9) DEC, a Gold potion, a Legendary potion, a Gargoya Lion, a Pelacor Mercenary, and a Venari Crystalsmith. Not too great for the number of chests, but at least InvestYGator got another Djinn Chwala!

I think I may have incorrectly numbered my pack openings last time, but I opened three more Untamed packs. I think these are 41, 42, and 43 out of 50.

Fire Elemental is a very solid rare monster, but nothing too exciting here.
This is actually my first copy of Goblin Firemage! Always nice to find an epic card.
And ending with a gold foil common, which is always nice to see as well!

Tournaments:

I failed to sign up for a lot of tournaments this past week. Granted, the one I actually did sign up for I did quite poorly in. I joined a Silver league official tournament, and went 2-9 to lose my 6 Splintershard Tokens (SPS) entry fee.

Guild Brawls:

Guild Brawl #47, playing Gold foil Bronze, Untamed set only. I had no opponents this brawl, but the guild did come in first. I also found that I had enough merits to open up a couple more Gladiator packs!

Would have preferred to get the epic plus legendary combo in one of the Untamed packs. While it’s great to get these cards, since I’ve only been doing gold foil I can’t use them in any of my matches.
Double rare cards are also nice to find, but hard to beat that first pack.

The Rest:

I ended up trading about 10 Vouchers that I got for a Beta pack. I haven’t opened it yet, and am strongly considering trading or selling it instead. But, I’ll probably end up opening it.

Marcus’s pack pool did end up securing the rights to one of the card designs, which he is auctioning off. In theory, I should be getting a cut of the proceeds from my participation in the pool, but the details on how that’s going to work seem a bit unclear still. People seem to be talking about setting it up as some sort of SPS fund now, rather than paying the proceeds out to the participants directly.

Support work has continued to be fairly busy. I haven’t had a ton of time to put into it outside of weekends, but at least this end of season we only had a couple hundred tickets come in from what I saw, instead of several times that. Outside of that, the only thing left is my season rewards:

InvestYGator made out with a nice pull of cards, particularly the Lava Launcher.
Nothing notable on my main account, but I am going to need these potions with Chaos Legion coming out soon!

As seems to be my routine, I finished in Gold III with InvestYGator and Diamond III with my main account. I’m also getting to a point where I think I may start more actively spending DEC on cards again. While it certainly feels like I’m getting a lot of reward cards, the sheer numbers needed to get them up to Gold level is likely going to make buying extra a necessity.

I don’t really have any plans for the upcoming season other than to just try to keep grinding away at daily quests. As always, I need to try to figure out what I’m doing with my various game assets, which so far seems to mostly be sitting on them. I should try to trade things around to actually improve my deck.

That’s it for this season. If you made it this far, thank you for reading! If you have any questions or comments, please let me know, and I’ll be back next week with what I found in some Chaos Legion packs!
