Splinterland Self Challenge

My Splinterlands Blog #58 – Post-Bronze Tournament Blues / Daily Quest Luck

Welcome to another weekly update on my attempt to challenge the Splinterlands ranked leagues! Initially it was a self challenge, to see how far I could get with the initial set of cards plus whatever I could win. But, that kind of fell apart around week 30 (with the game integrating with the WAX network and users being able to buy and sell cards on Atomic Hub).

In general game news, the most noticeable impact of the recent removal of DEC rewards to Novice and Bronze III seems to be a big increase in market rentals. At least this is what I’m attributing to the massive number of people who have been running out of resource credits, the “gas” tokens that Splinterlands, and the Hive block chain in general, require for transactions. I say this since they have been coming to Discord looking for help, or submitting support tickets about it.

Lending out those resource credits! Ok… they have no image that I know of, so this was what I came up with.

The good news is the developers are working on improving the way the market works. As I’m writing this, they put in a fix to prevent people who are trying to rent or buy cards that have already been snatched off the market from wasting resource credits. At any rate, I’ve spent a lot of time on Discord chat trying to tell people how resource credits work, or temporarily lending them some from my own accounts so they could play.

I have also been doing some delegations to new accounts to help them get up to Bronze II. I should probably do a bit more research on the accounts I lent stuff out to, but I haven’t had time yet. Speaking of which, I think I’ll do some delegations at the end of this season, if people actually read this and reply!

For now, here’s the breakdown of the past week:

Daily Quest Rewards:

Daily Quest # 422 – Win 5 with Dragon. With the season just resetting, I was back at Gold III. I didn’t spend the time to grind out of it, and just completed the daily quest getting 9 (5 + 4) Dark Energy Crystals (DEC), a Legendary potion, a Venari Heatsmith (common monster), a Gargoya Lion (common monster), and a Pelacor Conjurer (common monster). I also spent 158 DEC on 2 Gargoya Devils, to have enough to level it up to 3.

The damage goes up to 3 at Level 3. At level 4 it gets a bonus ability!

Daily Quest # 423 – Win 5 with Life… re-rolled to Win 5 with Snipe. For completing this daily quest, I received 2 Legendary potions and 41 (17 + 4 + 12 + 8) DEC. Probably my worst pulls for the week.

Daily Quest # 424 – Win 5 with Sneak. I finally got back up to Gold II before completing this quest. For doing so, I received a Gold potion, a Legendary potions, 122 (7 + 7 + 9 + 99) DEC, and a Gargoya Lion.

Daily Quest # 425 – Win 5 with Sneak. For completing this daily quest, I got 79 (76 + 3) DEC, a Gold potion, a Pelacor Conjurer, a Pelacor Mercenary (common monster), a Gold Foil Pelacor Bandit (common monster), and a Gold Foil Pelacor Deceiver (common monster)!

Daily Quest # 426 – Win 5 with Snipe. For finishing this quest, I received 10 (7 + 3) DEC , a Gold potion, a Legendary potion, 2 Exploding Rats (rare monsters), and a Pelacor Conjurer.

Daily Quest # 427 – Win 3 with No Neutral. For completing this quest, I got 6 DEC (1 + 2 + 3), a Legendary Potion, a Pelacor Deceiver, a Pelacor Bandit, and a Djinn Ohannus (legendary monster)!

Daily Quest # 428 – Win 5 with No Fire… re-rolled to Win 5 with Dragon. For completing this daily quest, I received 2 Legendary potions, 9 (4 + 5) DEC, a Pelacor Conjurer, a Pelacor Deceiver, and a Gargoya Devil (rare monster).

Daily Quest # 429 – Win 3 with No Neutral. Almost at the mid-point in the season and I finally ground back up to Gold I. For completing this quest, I got 30 (10 + 10 + 9 + 1) DEC, a Pelacor Mercenary, a Pelacor Conjurer, a Gargoya Lion, and a Twilight Basilisk (rare monster).

Daily Quest # 430 – Win 5 with Life… re-rolled to Win 5 with Death. This was a pretty bad time, as my Death cards are not Gold league level. After a grueling grind to do this, I got 5 DEC, 2 Legendary potions, a Gold potion, a Pelacor Bandit, Twilight Basilisk, Venari Heatsmith, and a Harklaw (legendary monster)!

I had to play dozens of matches to get the Death wins in, and I felt oddly validated when I pulled the Harklaw.

Two legendary cards and two gold foil commons in one week was some really good luck! I opened my Untamed packs 33 and 34 out of 50 to see if the trend would continue. Spoiler, it did not.

Nothing of real note here.
Serpentine Spy is a great card, but sadly no summoners or more than one rare card.

Tournaments:

I feel like I used to mention this more regularly, but my deck is mostly a good Bronze league deck. I did buy a couple Splinters (Earth and Water) worth of Gold-league viable cards, but for most tournaments I’ve been doing relatively poorly of late. While I have managed to qualify for some bigger tournaments, because of people dropping out or individuals placing in multiple qualifier tournaments, I really haven’t had much of a chance of doing well in them.

Saturday ZenSports Spooky Spirit Cup – This tournament ended up being a bit of a mess, as the organizer didn’t show up until almost an hour into it. Tanzo ended up covering the organizational side. I unsurprisingly got run over by someone with a better set of Gold League cards in the first round.

Monday Untamed Silvershield Knights, Silver League tournament: I actually missed that this was Untamed only and no legendary cards initially. I did a mediocre 4-5-2 on the first day, to not make day two. I came in 71st place for no prize, losing my 6 Splintershard token (SPS) entry fee.

Wednesday ZenSports Pigeon Classic Cup Gold Qualifier – I made it to round 4 before getting eliminated, coming in 16th place and getting 6 SPS for my trouble.

Saturday ZenSports Pigeon Classic – Apparently, a bunch of people turned down playing in Gold league after qualifying earlier in the week. I went in with low expectations, which were readily met as I lost handily to a Diamond league player.

Guild Brawls:

Guild Brawl #43, playing Gold foil Bronze, Untamed set only. I had no opponents once again, but the guild did finish in 1st place!

Guild Brawl #43, playing Gold foil Bronze, Untamed set only. I actually had a couple of matches this time. The guild finished 2nd place overall in our grouping this time around.

Vs Fisty2Face of Crystal

Vs YUKITON of (non US text guild that I can’t type)

I did buy a couple more Gladiator packs this week, after noticing I had accumulated enough merits for them!

Two rare cards are always nice to find in a pack.
Though an epic and rare card are certainly better!

The Rest:

No trading this week, though I did try to see if anyone on Discord was interested in trading for a Level 1 Kron the Undying or Level 5 Bortus, but I didn’t get any serious interest. Also nothing too exciting in rewards on my InvestYGator account. I just got the usual potions, small DEC amounts, as well as common & rare cards.

I’ve just about gotten my 100 Vouchers for the new Chaos Legion packs air drop. I’m debating if I want to put them in to @MarcusWahl’s pool, as the bonus discount seems to make the most sense. I’d basically be trading a gamble for additional air drop cards on my own account for a stake in a set larger reward pool. I have a few more days to decide after the time I get this posted!

Ok, this has been a pretty long article, so if anyone made it to the end: if any new players catch this and need delegations, post a reply with your account name in the comments. I’ll look through what I’ve got and see what I can lend out for the next season. Though, last time I tried to do this, I didn’t get any responses!

Thank you for reading and I’ll be back next week with the season wrap up!

Nice article, this was my first season into splinterlands and i found it easy to pick up having played a lot of hearthstone. Managed to do 2k rating but the rentals are not worth it to go higher than silver 3 for the 2 chests(i think?). If you have any spare cp i would gladly appreciate it. Good luck further!
