Splinterland Self Challenge

My Splinterlands Blog #41 – The End Of A Long Bronze Season

Welcome to another weekly update on my attempt to challenge the Splinterlands ranked leagues! Initially it was a self challenge, to see how far I could get with the initial set of cards plus whatever I could win. But, that kind of fell apart around week 30 (with the game integrating with the WAX network and users being able to buy and sell cards on Atomic Hub).

Continuing from last week, I finished up this season competing on the Bronze leaderboard. I played way too many games, mainly because I didn’t just win them all, which would’ve made moving up the leaderboard much easier. I’ll talk a bit more about that at the end, but for now here’s my usual breakdown of the past week:

Daily Quest Rewards:

Daily Quest # 294 – Win 3 with No Neutral. These bronze prizes are a lot easier to list. For finishing this daily quest, I got a Gold potion.

Daily Quest # 295 – Win 5 with Water. For finishing this daily quest, I got another Gold potion. Since this was enough to open another pack, I opened number 14 out of the 50 I had gotten months ago.

A nice pack with a gold foil Sniping Narwhal and a summoner for the rare.

Daily Quest # 296 – Win 5 with Death… re-rolled to Win 5 with Sneak. For completing this daily quest, I got a 20th copy of the common Earth monster card, Barking Spider.

Daily Quest # 297 – Win 3 with No Neutral. For finishing this daily quest, I got a Legendary potion.

Daily Quest # 298 – Win 5 with Death… re-rolled to Win 3 with No Neutral. For completing this daily quest, I got another Legendary potion.

Daily Quest # 299 – Win 5 with Sneak. For doing this daily quest, I got a Gold potion.

Daily Quest # 300 – Win 5 with Dragon. For finishing this daily quest, I got a 17th copy of the common Death monster card, Phantasm.

I also noticed that I had more than enough copies to combine for a level 3 version.

Tournaments:

Sunday Bronze Blunderbuss, no legendary cards, all sets allowed tournament: I went 9-2 the first day, which still qualified for day two. I finished an unspectacular 15-7 to come in 33rd place for 159 DEC.

Final Friday Spring Training, Bronze League rules tournament: I went 8-1 to come in 7th place. As usual, WAX NFT packs were the reward for this tournament.

Saturday Live Bronze league Brawl: This tournament had a much larger than usual prize pool, so a ton of people entered it. It was single elimination, and I lost in the 2nd round to the eventual 6th place winner. Granted, one loss came down to a coin toss of the same regenerating monster.

Sunday Bronze Blunderbuss, no legendary cards, Untamed set only tournament: I went 9-1-1 on the first day of this tournament. I had a more solid finish of 19-2-1 to come in 5th place for 500 DEC.

Guild Brawls:

Once again, I had no opponents in brawl #19. There were a lot of smaller guilds, and no one else entered the Bronze gold foil Untamed only battle. On the bright side, the guild came in 2nd place – tied on total points with first.

The Season Results:

I want to start off by saying that I don’t recommend doing the leaderboard competition in Bronze, especially if you work a full time job. I also had a rather frustrating time, just missing out on making it into the top three. I ended up losing far too many games to come in first, but also hit a streak where I was getting opponents that weren’t worth any points.

6th through 9th place were all tied.

Out of the more than 1,000 games I ground through last season, I only played other people in the top 20 about 10 times throughout the season. I actually keep notes on my matches for writing these, so to be exact: I played BLACK-SHEEP once (I won), SPLINTERLANDS-RU twice (we both one once), and MICHIEL87 four times (I always lost, usually to the extremely rare Archmage Arius legendary summoner). I never got paired with any of the other top 20 accounts.

The leaderboard was mostly games against accounts that I presume were bots. This is the highest I finished, but I still wanted to make it up one more spot. Ah well, at least my season rewards were decent to help make up for it.

Another gold foil common and a 2,000 Dark Energy Crystal reward, that would have been a pack before the Untamed set sold out.

For the upcoming season, I am going to go back to just farming daily rewards in Silver. I’m not going to have the time to put into trying for Bronze league again over the next two weeks, plus I really need a break to do other stuff. I was playing right up until the season ended, trying to get those last 12 points, and hitting matches worth 0.

Not much else in the way of news this week, so I’ll wrap things up here. If you made it this far, thank you for reading! And, if you have any comments, suggestions, or feedback please let me know in the comments below!
