My Splinterlands Blog #160 – New Year, New Features

Welcome to another article where I write about my journey playing Splinterlands! While the Rebellion Conflicts (i.e. airdrop) hasn’t started yet, there was a pretty sizeable update to the game on the first Tuesday of the year. Nothing too earth shattering, but they fixed a lot of combat bugs and added a couple of new features.

One new feature is the ability to replay recent pack openings. It’s been an issue for quite a while now that, if a pack opening gets skipped or missed, there’s not a good way to see what you received inside the game. The ability to issue a Modern Format challenge was also added to the game, which has also been a long time coming.

Starter cards were also further nerfed, as you can no longer use them in Tournaments or Brawls. This has been a long-running theme, that you need to rent or own cards to be able to earn playing the game. The tutorial was fixed, a number of land issues were fixed, and a handful of other fixes/changes were in the last patch.

I did open up a couple more Rebellion packs as well:

The gold foil Grimbardun Fighter is a nice find for my gold-foil brawl deck.

Having only opened a few packs, most of my Rebellion cards are still at level 1, so I’m not really using them. I did use Grimbardun Fighter in some gold-foil Bronze brawls, where it was fairly useful as a main tank. The no attack monsters might be handy in very particular cases when combined with weapons training, but by themselves are normally not worth playing.

Brawls

Guild Brawl #189, playing Bronze League Gold Foil Only. I managed to remember to record the results, and the guild came in 4th place. Fairly close to the middle placing, but still far better than near last place.

Vs. NINJA-KIWI of CRYPTO FRIENDS FORVERER

Vs. BBGKEVIN of LEGENDARY DRAGON BABIES

Vs. GRANSHINOBI of THE MANDALORIANS

Vs. REALALEXIS of TRANSFORMATION-X

Vs. MUGGER of KNIGHTS OF NHINE

I also opened a couple of Gladiator packs:

No gold foils for my brawl deck, but since Gladiator cards are now useable in ranked play thanks to Conscription, it doesn’t hurt to get more.

The Rest:

With the holidays, there hasn’t been a new Town Hall yet. So, there’s no news about a 2024 roadmap other than what was previously mentioned about Land 2.0 and improving the new player experience being a priority. The Tower Defense game and an actual Validator, to go along with the licenses already sold, continue to be way behind their initial estimated release dates.

The first half of the season has been a bit of a struggle. I did get up to where I can advance to Gold in Wild, on my alternate account, but I’ve been stuck in the middle of Gold in Wild on my main. I haven’t really been advancing my reward card collection much. Most of my cards need a considerable amount more to advance in level to where they gain any appreciable improvement.

On the plus side, I am stockpiling grain on a daily basis. My Splintershard (SPS) amount from land has been steady at about 28 a day. And, that’s about it for news for this week. Thank you for reading, and I’ll be back next week with a season wrap up!
