My Splinterlands Blog #122 – It’s Over 900!

Welcome to another article where I write about my journey playing Splinterlands! This week marks over 900 days of playing, which is mainly notable in that it lets me make a Dragon Ball Z related joke in the title. The new ranked changes also come into play this end of season, so I won’t be falling as far back on my two accounts.

There was another big announcement, that the energy collection rate system was going to be reworked. It’s getting simplified to be 1 ranked game takes 1 energy, you recover 1 energy per hour, and can have a max of 50 energy. The biggest change however is that you can no longer play ranked once you run out of energy.

This isn’t going to come into play until after the end of this season, so I can’t really comment on it yet. I will be curious to see what impact it has on the leaderboard competition and the number of bots that I tend to run into when playing in Silver league. The most contentious part seems to be that there is also a plan to sell additional energy if you want to play more ranked games.

They do already have it up on the Maverick’s QA server, for public testing.

Not a lot of other changes in this last update to the game, just the addition of official Splinterlands bot accounts playing in Novice league, for new players to beat up on. Also, some clean up of the Tournaments user interface, but nothing that really impacts me at this point. As there is a lot of ground to cover for the end of the season, let’s move on to the breakdown of this past week!

Daily Quest Rewards:

Daily Quest # 898. Got Dragon Focus on my main account playing in Gold league. I received 2.746 (1.803 + 0.294 + 0.39 + 0.259) Splintershards (SPS,) 11 Gold potions, 8 Legendary potions, 11 Gold potions, and a Chaos Legion pack!

InvestYGator, my Silver league alternate account, got Flying Focus. I got 0.159 (0.062 + 0.043 + 0.054) SPS, 5 (2 + 1 + 2) Legendary potions, 1 Gold potion, 14 Merits, 3 Possessed Puppet (common monster), 3 Gobson Bombers (common monster), and a Swamp Spitter (common monster).

Daily Quest # 899. Got Dragon Focus. I received 0.706 (0.295 + 0.131 + 0.28) SPS, 7 Legendary potions, 12 (4 + 8) Gold potions, 2 Ferox Defenders (common monster), 7 Drybone Barbarians (common monster), 3 Coastal Sentries (common monster), 4 Fungus Flingers (common monster), and an Aves Sturgis (legendary monster)!

A very useful Life legendary, especially when paired with Pelacor Conjurer being such a solid tank with no attack. His health is a little low, but his damage potential is fairly high.

InvestYGator got Fire Focus. I got 0.129 (0.055 + 0.074) SPS, 4 (1 + 3) Gold potions, 21 Merits, 6 (3 + 3) Drybone Barbarians, 2 Venari Marksrats (common monster), 2 Costal Sentries, 2 Dumacke Orcs (common monster), 2 Swamp Spitters, 2 Franz Ruffmane (rare summoner), and a Clockwork Aide (epic monster)!

A more useful monster with no attack. Particularly shines as a back row tank when there’s no magic in play due to one of a couple of rule sets coming up.

Daily Quest # 900. Got Fire Focus and made it to Diamond league. I received a somewhat disappointing 88 (44 + 44) Merits, 24 Gold potions, and 10 Firecallers (common monster).

InvestYGator got Death Focus. I got 0.48 (0.071 + 0.076 + 0.046 + 0.062 + 0.225) SPS, 2 (1 + 1) Gold potions, 3 Legendary potions, 79 Merits, 2 Swamp Spitters, 2 Gobson Bombers, a War Pegasus (rare monster), and a Clockwork Aide!

Daily Quest # 901. Got Fire Focus. I received 1.574 SPS, 46 (24 + 22) Legendary potions, and 11 (7 + 4) Octavia Shadowmelds (rare monster).

InvestYGator got Defend Focus. I got 0.480 (0.074 + 0.043 + 0.042 + 0.05 + 0.271) SPS, 403 Merits, 7 (3 + 3 + 1) Gold potions, 3 Legendary potions, 2 Possessed Puppets, and 2 Imperial Knights (common monster).

Daily Quest # 902. Got Disable Focus. I received 3.335 (2.188 + 1.147) SPS, 22 Legendary potions, 8 Imperial Knights, 10 Drybone Barbarians, and a Franze Ruffmane.

InvestYGator got Dragon Focus. I received 0.118 (0.048 + 0.07) SPS, 100 (50 + 50) Merits, 1 Legendary potions, 2 Gold potions, 2 Fungus Flingers, 3 Firecallers, a War Pegasus, a gold foil Swamp Spitter, and a Frexian Hero (legendary monster)!

A useful card at higher level with Reflection Shield. The ability to give no attack monsters melee seems less useful in most situations that I can think of offhand.

Daily Quest # 903. Got Anti Melee Focus. I got 6.880 (1.926 + 2.089 + 1.097 + 1.768) SPS, 10 Fungus Flingers, and 6 Drybone Barbarians.

InvestYGator got Exploits Focus. I received 0.416 (0.033 + 0.059 + 0.074 + 0.25) SPS, 4 (2 + 2) Legendary potions, 1 Gold potion, 3 Firecallers, 3 Terraceous Grunts (common monster), and a Lobb Lowland (rare summoner).

Daily Quest # 904. Got Buffs Focus. I got 6.915 (5.049 + 1.866) SPS, 21 Gold potions, 201 (134 + 67) Merits, 3 Coastal Sentries, 8 Gobson Bombers, and 4 gold foil Coastal Sentries!

InvestYGator got Disable Focus. I received 0.356 (0.294 + 0.031 + 0.031) SPS, 4 (2 + 2) Gold potions 3 (1 + 2) Legendary potions, 3 (1 + 2) Fungus Flingers, a Pembrook Nymph (rare summoner), an Evelyn Auvera (epic monster), and a Chaos Legion pack!

The new reward Water summoner seems okay with the health bonus, though less useful ins most situations than the other Chaos Legion water summoners.

I opened two Chaos Legion packs that I had gotten as rewards:

Nothing too exciting here. The cards are good, but only the minimum one rare card.
A much nicer second pack, with a summoner, extra rare, and gold foil common!

Guild Brawls:

Guild Brawl #136, playing Bronze League Gold Foil Only. The guild once again did not do great, coming in second to last place. I did somewhat worse than usual myself as well.

Vs. JUDGESILVER of PHOENIX PALADINS

Vs. XWALMARTX of NEW BOT ORDER 2

Vs. BANXA of PEGASUS

Vs. CRYPTOVIRU5 of SONG OF THE PHOENIX

Vs. HERCULUES01 of JUN

Guild Brawl #137, playing Bronze League Gold Foil Only. I only had a couple of matches this time, but at least the guild moved up to finishing in 6th place.

Vs. SABINEWREN of IMMORTALCREED.IO

Vs. MAUMAL of CONSCIOUSNESS

I opened up one more Gladiator pack:

Another basic pack with nothing of real note.

The Rest:

No tournaments as usual. I did pick up some extra reward cards to potentially use as land workers, since it seems like the land features may actually start getting released in the new few months. The only real item of note is my season rewards! Without further ado, here they are:

InvestYGator’s Gold league chests, since I jumped up at the end of the season. The handful of cards is nice, but otherwise nothing too exciting.
My main account in Diamond league did a little better. One Chaos Legion pack and a few gold foil card, plus a lot of cards in general made for a nice end of season.

As usual, I jumped up to Gold league on my alternate account, and only reset back to Silver I this time around. I did make it up to Diamond II and reset back to Gold I on my main. A lot better than dropping back down to where losing one match would drop me even lower.

I actually had a decent run in Silver at one point and was getting close to the reward section of the Leaderboard. Then I lost a few matches and dropped like a rock. I did jump up to Gold while still in the top 100 for Silver, so felt pretty good about that.

The leaderboard grind at end of season isn’t that appealing to me nowadays, though I once did it in Bronze many months back. Anyhow, that’s it for this season! I’ll be back next week with some experience with the new energy system! Thanks for reading!
