My Splinterlands Blog #118 – End Of First New Rewards Season

Welcome to another article where I write about my journey playing Splinterlands! The first season with the new account bound reward cards has wrapped up, and it does feel better to get cards as rewards once again. With no option to just go to the store and buy the new cards, or transfer them over from farming accounts, getting them feels a lot more meaningful.

A lot of updates happened in the past week, but most of them don’t really impact gameplay. Things like Vouchers got moved to be on the Splintershards (SPS) Validator chain, even if it’s only a single internal validator being run by the company as they develop things out. A few bugs with Dispel removing more things than intended were fixed, though it does still remove gladiator’s Bloodlust now.

Grum is far less useful after the nerfs to Bloodlust.

Some changes were made to officially group cards by era, so that for example Chaos Legion era reward cards are considered part of the full Chaos Legion set, along with Riftwatchers. But it has yet to be implemented for sorting on the user interface, so not too much of an improvement outside of what can be used in Brawls and Tournaments. At any rate, let’s move on to how the last week went.

Daily Quest Rewards:

Daily Quest # 871. Got Healing Focus on my main account. I made it into Diamond league at some point during the last few days of the season, but forgot to mark down the exact day I got out of Gold league. I did receive 2.218 (1.908 + 0.31) SPS, 7 Legendary potions, and 13 (7 + 6) Gold potions as my rewards.

InvestYGator, my Silver league alternate account, got Healing Focus. I got 1.754 (0.035 + 0.039 + 0.043 + 1.637) SPS, 1 Legendary potion, 10 Merits, 3 Ferox Defenders (common monster), a Terraceous Grunt (common monster), and a Pyrewatch Devil (rare monster).

Seems like a solid option for lower manna matches or to fill a slot with Yodin Zaku. Might come in handy with Conqueror Jacek teams as well.

Daily Quest # 872. Got Defend Focus. I received 28.757 (0.441 + 27.815 + 0.243 + 0.258) SPS, 6 Legendary potions, 4 (3 + 1) Wily Coyotian (common monster), a Possessed Puppet (common monster), 2 Lobb Lowland (rare summoner), and 2 Franz Ruffmane (rare summoner).

The Life summoner that allows the use of one extra Gladiator card.

InvestYGator got Healing Focus. I got 0.171 (0.056 + 0.057 + 0.058) SPS, 27 (10 + 7 + 10) Merits, 3 (1 + 1 + 1) Legendary potions, 1 Gold potion, 3 Firecallers (common monster), and 2 Drybone Barbarians (common monster).

Daily Quest # 873. Got Healing Focus. I received 4.794 (4.622 + 0.172) SPS, 7 Legendary potions, 22 Merits, 6 Imperial Knights (common monster), 2 Pyrewatch Devils, a gold foil Wily Coyotian, and a Chaos Legion pack!

Seems to be a great tank at level 5+. It may take a while until I am able to get one up to that high a level.

InvestYGator got Exploits Focus. I got 0.437 (0.393 + 0.044) SPS, 1 Gold potion, 28 (7 + 7 + 14) Merits, 5 (1 + 3 + 1) Legendary potions, 2 Swamp Spitters (common monster), 2 Dumacke Orcs (common monster), and a Fungus Flinger (common monster).

Daily Quest # 874. Got Defend Focus. I received 2.463 (0.228 + 0.297 + 0.885 + 0.436 + 0.381 + 0.236) SPS, 8 Legendary potions, and 2 Wily Coyotians.

While I love the name, it doesn’t seem like a particularly playable card.

InvestYGator got Flying Focus. I got 32.870 (0.394 + 32.067 + 0.409) SPS, 8 (2 + 3 + 3) Legendary potions, 3 (1 + 2) Gold potions, 2 Dumacke Orcs, 3 Possessed Puppets, and a Pyrewatch Devil.

Daily Quest # 875. Got Impair Focus. I received 7.061 (2.258 + 2.377 + 0.876 + 1.55) SPS, 8 Drybone Barbarians, and 11 Dumacke Orcs.

InvestYGator got Dragon Focus. I got 0.579 (0.404 + 0.041 + 0.081 + 0.053) SPS, 14 Merits, 4 (1 + 3) Legendary potions, 4 (3 + 1) Gold potions, 3 Ferox Defenders, and a gold foil Terraceous Grunt.

A bit of an oddity, as this seems like a somewhat decent tank in matches with no magic. But, I have yet to actually use him in a match on either account.

Daily Quest # 876. Got Fire Focus. I received 3.277 (1.455 + 1.822) SPS, 8 Swamp Spitters (common monster), 5 Lobb Lowlands, and 3 gold foil Swamp Spitters.

Another really great card. The 7 mana cost ones seem like the best of the common cards in this reward set.

InvestYGator got Anti Melee Focus. I got 6.716 (0.058 + 0.096 + 6.394 + 0.075 + 0.093) SPS, 6 (3 + 3) Legendary potions, 4 (2 + 2) Gold potions, 3 (2 + 1) Terraceous Grunts, and 2 Imperial Knights.

Daily Quest # 877. Got Fire Focus. I received 1,388 (134 + 1254) Merits, 19 Legendary potions, 8 Gold potions, 11 Fungus Flingers, and 10 Dumacke Orcs.

InvestYGator got Anti Melee Focus. I got 0.567 (0.082 + 0.485) SPS, 10 Merits, 6 (3 + 2 + 1) Gold potions, 6 (2 + 1 + 3) Legendary potions, 3 Drybone Barbarians, and 3 Gobson Bombers (common monster).

Guild Brawls:

Guild Brawl #131, playing Bronze League Gold Foil Only. The guild came in 2nd to last place with a lot of people not participating.

Vs. BALEINHA of TAVERN JUSTICE

Vs. COOLHAND-2020 of BITCOIN & BREWS

Vs. KEVANKO70 of WAYWARD WAR DOGS

Vs. BENDMC of COLLECTIVE VISION

Vs. BIDOJ of FREE GLADIATORS

Vs. BUFO-ALVARIUS of SHARKS

Vs. MIKO67-003 of WASH-RINSE-REPEAT

Vs. RTRON86GOLD of VINDICTA

Vs. KNOW-ONE of YGG ROOSTERS

I opened up one more Gladiator pack:

Nothing for my gold-foil brawl deck, but now that these can be used in ranked, I may be able to use these once I level them up a bit more.

The Rest:

No real trading or tournaments this past week. The season ended fairly well, with InvestYGator moving up to Gold II, and I made it to Diamond II on my main. It’s always nice to not have to worry about dropping back down a league if you lose a game after the season resets.

I should probably be doing more active trading or renting with my extra cards, though I haven’t really had time to manage that. It does seem like we’ll need 5 monsters, and no summoners, for land management based on what was said on the last town hall by the developers. Since I have a few plots, I may want to try to combine up a few extra max level cheap reward monsters to be land workers.

However, it’s still unknown if you’ll need specific types of monsters to work on different types of land, so getting random max level cards might backfire a bit. Hopefully a white paper for land will get released soon. Anyhow, here’s what I ended up getting for my season rewards:

Great rewards on my InvestYGator account, from Gold chests. Two packs and a nice Legendary neutral monster card! Plus, a few Water summoners and a gold foil common.
Overall happy with my season rewards. Two more Chaos Legion packs, two copies of a Legendary, and my first card with Weapon’s Training, plus a lot of Fire summoners!

My plan for the next season is to try to grind my way back up to Silver I and Gold I/Diamond respectively. Silver tends to be easier, as the competition in Gold to Diamond has been pretty darn rough of late. So, pretty much the usual start to a new season.

That’s about it for this season update. Thank you for reading it! I’ll be back next week with another update!
