My Splinterlands Blog #114 – End Of The First Season 2023

Welcome to another article where I write about my journey playing Splinterlands! The first season of 2023 has just wrapped up and we just had another weekly update to the game. Granted, there was very little of note in this update – just some interface changes to the Buy DEC and Buy SPS pages.

The bigger news was an announcement during the last Town Hall that, when the new account bound reward cards are released in the next few weeks, they will stop printing all of the old reward cards. Though, the original reward cards from this current era actually did hit their print limit at this end of season, meaning no more Pelacor are left even before the next set of reward cards come out. The ones that will be ending early are the vampire set that was added on, Tide Biter, Vampiric Blossom, etc.

A great front line tank at max level!

The news combined with the cards starting to hit their print run limits caused a massive buying frenzy of said reward cards. Some went up about four times in price in a matter of hours. Prices did dip back a bit after the initial rush, though most remain higher than their fairly recent all-time low prices.

A new road map was also released for 2023. A lot of this is continuations of things promised last year, or earlier, but yet to be fully finished. The main new things are some sort of Guild Alliance system, updating the new player tutorial, and a rework of the ranked league system.

The last big news is the team implemented a mechanic for player’s submitting proposals. You need to burn 100,000 Dark Energy Crystals (DEC) and put up a post on the Hive network detailing your proposal, where people can vote it up or down by using the like/dislike feature. A couple of third-party sites have also put up tracking pages for these proposals.

We’re also already past half way to the next Chaos Legion legendary summoner release! But there’s no real news on the stats for that yet. So, let’s move onto the breakdown of the final week of this past season.

I opened one new Gladiator pack this week:

As usual, no gold foil cards for the matches I play.

The Rest:

No real trading or tournaments, as usual. I did want to level up some of my legendary reward monsters, but am thinking of waiting a bit since the prices jumped up on the end of reward FOMO. Anyhow, let’s see what I got in my season rewards. As usual, I moved up to Gold for InvestYGator and Diamond for my main account.

Nothing especially notable for my InvestYGator account this season.
My main account, part 1.
A nice set of four Chaos Legion packs and some decent SPS chests!

It will be interesting to see what happens when the rest of the reward cards are actually out of print. The upcoming season will probably be the last chance to get a lot of these drops. I found the chart below of what’s left in print at the time of this writing, courtesy of Splinterstats.

That’s about it for this season update. Thank you for reading it! I’ll be back in about a week with another update on the next season that just started!
