Welcome to my first update for 2023, where I write about my journey playing Splinterlands! The biggest news so far this year, is the release of the Earth legendary Chaos Legion summoner, Immortalis. Some of the promised Runi functionality, of being able to use them as your avatar picture in the game itself, was also added.
There were a few other smaller updates as well, but nothing else really impactful to gameplay. During the town hall, there was some discussion about expanding the use of Gladiator cards, essentially adding rules that will allow them to be used in other matches outside Brawls. A tournament mode is also coming soon that will allow for Gladiator use in them as well.
For now, let’s get to the usual breakdown of the season so far. This is a particularly long season too, as the last season actually ended on the last Friday in December, as opposed to the last actual day of the month.
Daily Quest Rewards:
Daily Quest # 834. Got Anti Magic Focus. This was a Diamond chest from where I finished at the end of last season, before resetting back to Gold. I got a Pelacor Bandit, which was the last one I needed for a max level copy.
InvestYGator, my Silver league alternate account, got Exploits Focus. This was a Gold chest from having jumped up for better seasonal rewards, and I got 0.377 Splintershards (SPS).
Daily Quest # 835. Got Dragon Focus. I received 156 Merits, 4 Gold potions, a Venari Heatsmith, a Pelacor Conjurer, a gold foil Vampire Bat, and a Chaos Legion pack!

Daily Quest # 836. Got Dragon Focus. I received 0.597 (0.217 + 0.38) SPS, 33 Merits, a Vampire Bat, and a Merdhampir.

Daily Quest # 837. Got Death Focus. I received 21 (8 + 5 + 8) Legendary potions!
InvestYGator got Anti Melee Focus. I got 0.417 (0.056 + 0.102 + 0.057 + 0.103 + 0.099) SPS, 5 (2 + 3) Gold potions, a Gargoya Lion, and a Naga Assassin.
Daily Quest # 838. Got Healing Focus. I received 0.46 SPS, 33 Merits, and a Merdhampir.
InvestYGator got Death Focus. I got 1.539 (0.065 + 1.474) SPS, 2 (1 + 1) Legendary potions, 2 Gold potions, a Gargoya Lion, and a Pelacor Bandit.
Daily Quest # 839. Got Death Focus. I received 1.992 (0.404 + 0.227 + 1.361) SPS, a Pelacor Deceiver, a Pelacor Bandit, and a Gargoya Devil.
InvestYGator got Defend Focus. I got 0.294 (0.103 + 0.096 + 0.095) SPS, 3 (1 + 2) Legendary potions, 1 Gold potion, a Vampire Bat, and a Merdhampir.
Daily Quest # 840. Got Earth Focus. I received 0.029 SPS, 56 Merits, 11 (6 + 5) Legendary potions, a Pelacor Mercenary, and a Twilight Basilisk.
InvestYGator got Flying Focus. I got 0.395 (0.258 + 0.049 + 0.088) SPS, 12 Merits, 3 Gold potions, 6 (2 + 1 + 3) Legendary potions, 2 Blood Makers, and a Pelacor Bandit.
Daily Quest # 841. Got Flying Focus. I received 3.677 (2.921 + 0.26 + 0.496) SPS, 11 (7 + 4) Gold potions, 17 (6 + 11) Legendary potions, and a Vampire Bat.
InvestYGator got Flying Focus. I got 1.757 (1.71 + 0.047) SPS, 7 ( 3 + 2 + 2) Legendary potions, 16 Merits, 3 Pelacor Deceivers, a Pelacor Bandit, and an Ever-Hungry Skull.
A good start to the season, after the initial single chests anyhow. But, then it kind of petered off into average to slightly below average rewards. One thing that I noticed recently, was that the battle reward SPS tends to be higher than the average reward chest SPS.
Guild Brawls:
Guild Brawl #124, playing Bronze League Gold Foil Only. The guild once again did poorly, coming in 2nd from last place.
Vs. JOSEMAR of SL – SPANISH ACADEMY
Vs. MISTER.ARIANTHUS of GOAT GANG
Vs. SPLINTERLANDSRJU of SILVER-BOT
Vs. NERMAN of ULTIMATE GAMERS – opponent fled
I did open a couple more Gladiator packs:
The Rest:
No real trading or tournaments, as usual. I did get my one copy of Immortalis airdropped from having bought enough packs during the initial release of Chaos Legion. I did also open another 100 of my Chaos Legion packs, as I am doing with each new air drop release. Here’s what I got:
At the time of this writing, there’s still a bit more than a week left in the season. The Winterfest promo will be ending soon, stopping the minting of Arkemis The Bear for each pack purchased. It was stated that they want to try to do quarterly promo card releases, though I expect the style of them will vary from just purchasing them to getting cards as bonuses for packs purchased.
That’s about it for this week. If you made it this far, thank you for reading! I’ll be back next week with the wrap up of the first season of 2023!
