Welcome to a slightly delayed article where I write about my journey playing Splinterlands! This past weekend was Splinterfest, the first in-person Splinterlands event, held in Las Vegas Nevada. Normally I would have written this article last weekend, but since I attended the event I was otherwise occupied being an awkward gamer in a large social gathering.
With two days of next to no sleep, really three days considering how early I had to catch a plane on Monday, I’ve been pretty wiped out. I’ve been under the weather since coming back from the event and that further delayed me getting to this article. But, with the season about to end… here is my very belated mid-season update!

Guild Brawls:
Guild Brawl #106, playing Bronze League Gold Foil Only. While I feel like I’ve been decent in brawls, the guild has not. I actually missed writing down our placing for this brawl, but I think it was still near the bottom end.
Vs. SKETCHYGAMERGUY of GUARDIANS OF GLORY
Vs. NOTDIKKO of LUCRATIVE DEGENERATES
Vs. THEMCGWIRE of CARDS OF FURY
Vs. ZEESHANNAQVI3RD of GLADIATORS III
Vs. NEDSAYING123 of TEAM POSSIBLE HACKERS
Guild Brawl #107, playing Bronze League Gold Foil Only. The guild came in 2nd from last place this time around.
Vs. MISTER.ARIANTHUS of GOAT GANG
Vs. CROSSFLOW of the PERPETUALS
Vs. BOBCATG of the ANTI SOCIAL CLUB
Vs. SPEEDMASTER69 of LANDLORDS
I did also get and open one more Gladius pack:
The Rest:
Before heading off to Splinterfest, I did spend the rest of the money I had picked up selling Vouchers to get a level 3 Conqueror Jacek. He’s been pretty fun to play, pumping up speed even further with Countess Sinash and Supply Runner. The scattershot has both helped and hindered some matches, but I usually don’t regret playing him.
For tournaments, I did play in the Splinterfest Open Cards events, where you had all the cards available. I did fairly poorly in Champion, since there were so many max level cards that I never play with. I came in 69th place, well outside top 16. I did better with Modern Gold league, where I came in 28th place. One more win and I would have been in contention for top 16.
I feel like I should talk a bit more about Splinterfest before wrapping things up. It was really great to actually get to meet the rest of the team in person, as well as a bunch of the players that I recognize from Discord, or from the stream team. I spent a lot of time hanging out with the support and development staff, but I did make an effort to try to say ‘Hi’ to some of the people that I’ve interacted with online in the past.
I briefly shook hands and talked with @Stever82; I’ve been watching his streams starting way back when I was trying to be a free-to-play account. I got to talk briefly with Dave McCoy, who has long been a big proponent of the game and of making it better for new players. Heh, I also later ran into him at the craps table, when Pluck was teaching Lilyfire and me how that game is played.
I didn’t really do any gambling myself, though I did watch a bunch of my coworkers lose money at Blackjack. Stealing a line from RoyalEagle, my gambling is opening packs 🙂 It was also cool to meet @Crimsonclad in person, who was there representing Hive as one of the developers of the blockchain. She gave a nice brief talk at the opening of the event.
Weirdbeard also deserves a shoutout for working his butt off both on and off stage to get the tournament going. Byzantinist was also very nice in person, even though he was a bit shy and wore a cat mask during the event. I was a little disappointed Splinterlands didn’t spring for a full body Byzantine Kitty mascot costume for him.
A lot of people that deserve thanks for getting the event together and for organizing things, including Chatter, RealityVsModel, Xembre, Aftersound, Aggroed, Yabapmatt, and a bunch more people that I’m forgetting at the moment. I hope that everyone who attended had a good time! And, hopefully, I’ll get to meet more of you when we do this again!
I feel like I didn’t take enough pictures, but it has been great seeing the ones posted up on Discord. Anyhow, that’s my Splinterfest experience. I’m sure the topics talked about during the panels will have been covered by the time I get this out, and I missed a lot of them anyhow while talking to people. But, land phase 1 should be out “soon”.
If you made it this far, thank you for reading! If you have any questions or comments, feel free to let me know below. I’ll also be back in a few days with the season wrap up!
