Splinterland Self Challenge

My Splinterlands Blog #101 – Riftwatchers Playable and End of Season

Welcome to another article where I write about my journey playing Splinterlands! At the time of this writing, we’re less than a week away from Splinterfest, the first in-person Splinterlands convention that will be held in Las Vegas. I will be attending myself, though only in a whirlwind trip out there just for the event.

The Riftwatcher’s set also fully released this past week, with the packs now being able to be opened. The set has a lot of higher cost cards, as well as a new set of epic rarity summoner cards. Due to some issues with the pre-sale, the air drop cards for it have not been released, though I’m not getting any of the pre-sale air drop myself due to my own small purchase going through a few seconds too late.

The new Riftwatcher’s summoners, from the market view.

The set has some interesting cards and adds a new ability, Fury. Monsters with Fury do double damage against monsters with taunt, hoping to break up the Wavebrood back line tank meta a bit. I’ve only opened a couple of packs, as I’m waiting for the first air drop card to be added to open the majority of them.

A new water summoner, though not an ability that’s too useful in most matches.
And a legendary monster! At higher levels he gets last stand and forcefield, potentially making him playable in higher manna matches.

I’m leaving most of the cards on my Silver league alt account, InvestYGator, since they’re less useful on my main at level one. It’s an interesting set, and seems rare at the moment with so few packs opened. With quite a few other things to get to, let’s move on to coverage of the past week.

Some pretty decent rewards this week, with a lot of packs, a legendary, a few gold cards, and a few epic cards.

Guild Brawls:

Guild Brawl #105, playing Bronze League Gold Foil Only. The guild continues to struggle, with certain people not submitting teams or not joining the brawls. We finished second from last place this time around.

I did open one more Gladiator pack:

An extra rare, but no gold cards, so not useful for my particular brawl slot.

The Rest:

I usually say I didn’t play in any tournaments, but I technically played in a just-for-fun tournament with the staff to test out the new Open tournament format, where all the cards are available. I lost in the first round, but at least we got some testing in. I also did some trading, in that I sold a chunk of Vouchers and bought some cards instead.

I was originally expecting to use the Vouchers for some of these sales, but ended up not really getting other funds together. I was able to level up a bunch of cards to more useful levels, and picked up a max level Spirit Hoarder and Lorna The Dark. A lot of that came from getting frustrated trying to get out of Gold the past few seasons.

For the actual season results, I did manage to squeak into Diamond III before the end of the season. My alt account stayed in Silver, though I’m thinking I should start moving him up to Gold right before the season ends for higher quality season chests – albeit probably a lot fewer of them. Here’s what I got for season rewards:

InvestYGator’s Silver rewards, part one. Nothing too exciting yet.
But, a legendary and a pack in the last half made for a nice haul!
No more legendary cards, but one more pack and a lot more SPS on my main.

I’m hoping I can get back out of Gold earlier next season with some additional cards, though the addition of Riftwatchers into the mix might throw things off a bit. My next update will likely be sometime after Splinterfest, so slightly later than usual. We’ll see how my progress on getting up through Gold league goes by then!
